I hate how the Vista advertisements rave about how parents can limit their kids’ time spent on the internet. One parent says, “…because sometimes I catch them up at 2:00 in the morning still surfing the web.”
I attribute 100% of my web and graphic design skills to the fact that I spent an insane amount of time on the computer in my youth. I wasn’t playing. I was learning.
Word. When all the other kids were playing Counter-Strike, I was fucking bitches up in Photoshop Deathmatch. I used to be full-on addicted to K10K.
I was making simple HTML sites for my HS lacross team and playing Sim City 2000 — not nearly as advanced as others. But its not as if I spent this time avoiding something else that would have made me a great person. Its not as if less computer would have me writing a thesis, volunteering or perfecting a crossover dribble. I was am doing what I loved.
